Did you ever want to learn how to take a blood pressure? In Module Two in the Medical Insurance Billing and Office Administration program at Ross Medical Education Center, a student will be taught skills related to vital signs to include height, weight, blood pressure, respiration, and pulse. These are all very important fundamental skills needed in this field, and the more skills possessed, the more opportunities become available.
Although graduates of the Medical Insurance Billing and Office Administration program typically work solely at the administrative tasks, many times offices need healthcare professionals that are flexible. Being able to assist wherever needed is a sign of a prepared professional, which is also covered in this module to prepare you for future opportunities in interactions with many different types of patients.
The module also includes medical terminology and the anatomy and physiology of the heart and lungs. Common medications used for heart and lung diseases will be included. Medical terminology and anatomy and physiology are the basics of coding. These topics correlate with procedure and diagnosis coding related to the heart and lungs. The diagnosis and procedure codes are used to complete the claim form to bill many types of insurance companies. The basics of insurance and insurance terminology as well as Medicare, insurance for those over 65 and some disabled, are the focus of this module.
The classroom experience is interactive with many varied presentations, discussions, activities, and numerous opportunities to use technology. Electronic health records and patient management systems are used and ultimately generate insurance claim forms. There are several student resources available to enhance the learning experience including basic keyboarding skills using Word, Typing Quick and Easy, use of Excel, a virtual library, StudyWare, vital signs software, electronic claim forms, and many online resources. A student was quoted as saying, “I love my teacher and we have so much fun!”
