Did you know that, even in an administrative position, you could potentially save a life? In Module Five of the Medical Insurance Billing and Office Administration program at Ross Medical Education Center, students will be taught Basic Life Support to include CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) and the proper use of an AED (Automated External Defibrillator). Basic first aid will be taught with the opportunity to obtain certification in CPR for the healthcare provider. So who knows, someday you could save a life!
The module also includes medical terminology and the anatomy and physiology of the ear, eye, and nervous system. Common medications used for ear, eye and nervous system conditions will be included. Medical terminology and anatomy and physiology are the basis of coding. These topics correlate with procedure and diagnosis coding related to the ear, eye and nervous system. The diagnosis and procedure codes are used to complete the claim form to bill many types of insurance companies.
The basics of insurance and insurance terminology as well as Worker’s Compensation, a type of insurance for those injured or become ill in the line of work, are the focus of this module. Professionalism is always a focus; however, in this particular module, you will also be assisted in preparing for your career. This will include resume and reference list preparation, job hunting, cover letters, and thank you letters. With the attention on your career, topics related to supervising the front office are covered and can prepare a student for the future potential opportunity of managing an office.
The classroom experience is interactive with many varied presentations, discussions, activities and numerous opportunities to use technology. Electronic health records and patient management systems are used and ultimately generate insurance claim forms. There are several student resources available to enhance the learning experience including basic keyboarding skills using Word, Typing Quick and Easy, use of Excel, a virtual library, StudyWare, electronic claim forms and many online resources. Professionalism and soft skills are covered to prepare students for the healthcare field and interaction with a diverse population of patients. The module is a place to gain knowledge while preparing for the healthcare career.
