Opening a new Ross Medical Education Center campus, and with it innumerable new opportunities for the residents in a community, is a very exciting time at Ross. One of our newest campuses is located in Lafayette, Indiana and is offering training in the Medical Assistant program, Medical Insurance Billing and Office Administration program, and the Dental Assistant program.
Not only does a new campus mean new opportunities for healthcare training for students in the community, but also a staff and faculty that is excited and gets to be a part of the experience from the beginning! Lafayette Campus Director, Tim Hula, shared some of his enthusiasm about the new campus, “I am excited to be a part of the new synergy here in Lafayette, which is my hometown!” The entire staff is thrilled to be providing quality, hands on training programs to this community.
Also, the timing is perfect for a Ross campus to come on the scene because, shared Tim Hula, “there is a huge demand for trained individuals in the Lafayette market for healthcare positions.” Currently, the campus is growing, and students are getting excited about their future careers. Already they have caught on to the Ross culture of cultivating relationships within the community and reaching out to help and support wherever we can. Sha’Manica Dominguez, Medical Assistant student, shared, “I like the fact that Ross involves you in community events.” Miriah Israel, another Medical Assistant student, agreed, “I enjoyed volunteering at the fashion show. It is great that Ross helps us to get involved in the community.”
One of the exciting community events that Ross in Lafayette has had the chance to be a part of is the 3rd Annual Thrill of the Thrift Fashion Show. For this event, they collaborated with the Lafayette Adult Resource Academy (LARA). Proceeds from the show supported scholarships for the adult learners seeking to complete their high school equivalency. The show itself is designed to illustrate that it is possible to dress well without breaking the bank, an important lesson for many LARA attendees. Models shopped at thrift or secondhand stores and were tasked with assembling an outfit for under $30. Ross had students and staff participate by modeling and chatting with other local volunteers in the community for a great cause! Sheila Klinker, Indiana State Representative was in attendance and loved meeting and talking with the Ross students!
In addition to feeling involved in the community culture, students like Shelby Compton, Medical Assistant student, also just have felt a part of the campus and classroom. She shared, “only one month into my program and I already feel so welcome. It has been an amazing experience here.” Her classmate, Brittany Handy, agreed, “Ross has made going to school fun!” The campus staff and faculty works hard to come up with fun activities and meaningful community work to bring all of the students and staff together and make the campus feel like a family.
