Creating a culture of giving back to the community is one of the many things that sets Ross Medical Education Center apart, and the Port Huron, MI campus takes every opportunity they can to support local organizations. As September approached and the new school year began, Ross staff and students once again collected back to school items to donate to local Roosevelt Elementary School students. This year, over 330 items were donated including crayons, notebook paper, pencils, backpacks, Dixie cups, and much more.
Roosevelt Elementary School is one of ten elementary schools in the Port Huron Area School District. This is the second year that Ross Medical Education Center in Port Huron has partnered with them, and the teachers and staff have appreciated the support they receive from the Port Huron campus. While bringing in the boxes of school supplies, Career Services Representative, Lisa Montross, was greeted with an outpouring of appreciation. “The secretaries were so excited; they began digging through the boxes immediately,” Lisa commented. “It reminded me how much the little things, like new crayons and pencils, mean to these students. It’s rewarding to be able to make a difference like this.”
Many families struggle to purchase new supplies each school year for their students, but many of those items are essential to a child’s learning and his or her overall experience at school. However, Ross in Port Huron wants to ensure that every student has what they need to be successful. These donations mean so much to students and teachers, but those that had the opportunity to donate also enjoyed the drive. “I love back to school shopping, and the fact that these items are given to students who genuinely need them makes it even more fun,” said Jennifer Sater, Medical Insurance Billing and Office Administration instructor. “Our students know we care about them and our community. This is a great example of Ross putting it into action.”
