On Wednesday, July 15th the Ross Medical Education Center staff, faculty, and students at the Port Huron campus had the pleasure of having Dr. Dev Nandamudi come for a visit. They were delighted to have him speak to both the Medical Assistant and Medical Insurance Billing and Office Administration classes. Dr. Dev, as he prefers to be called, specializes in pediatrics at Children’s Healthcare of Port Huron in the local Fort Gratiot area. He has been in practice for over 30 years which gave him a lot of experiences to speak from to the students. He also speaks multiple languages, including Hindi and Urdu.
Dr. Dev spent quite a bit of time speaking to the students about what he looks for in an employee. Professional personality traits and eagerness to learn new things as well as being a team player are essential requirements for becoming a member of the medical staff in his office. He reiterated the necessity of being on time and present for every scheduled shift. Attendance issues do not make for an employable Allied Health Professional.
The students were also excited to ask him questions, as he holds a wealth of experience and knowledge about the healthcare field. Kari Adrian, a senior Medical Assistant student, asked Dr. Dev what he expected from his medical assistants. As a response, Dr. Dev reviewed the types of tasks an extern is expected to complete at his office. When asked what the worst part of his job is, Dr. Dev replied, “having to give patients or parents bad news concerning their child’s health.”
Everyone at the campus enjoyed Dr. Dev’s visit immensely. Many of the staff and faculty members have a long-standing relationship with him and his office. In fact, all three Medical Assistant and Medical Insurance Billing and Office Administration Instructors that were present for the visit have been employed at one point with the Children’s Healthcare Network and continue to have a valued relationship with the clinicians in this practice. His office also has hosted externs in the past and his staff knows and appreciates the quality of education provided at Ross.
