On Sunday, May 3rd, the Port Huron campus of Ross Medical Education Center participated in the March for Babies hosted by the March of Dimes. Due at least in part to the beautiful weather, the event was very successful and many families, organizations, and individuals showed up to walk and support the cause. In fact, it was so successful that it greatly exceeded expectations by raising $132,000. The walk’s route went through the historic downtown area and along the St. Clair River near the Blue Water Bridge.
This is the fifth consecutive year that the Ross community has been a part of this event. Stacey Clark, Assistant Campus Director of Education, has acted as the team captain. This year she was joined by some staff members from both the Port Huron campus and the St. Clair corporate office, Medical Insurance Billing and Office Administration Instructor Jen Sater, and some students and graduates. Not only did those directly connected to Ross come, but their children and families came out to support the cause as well. “It’s especially rewarding to participate in the March for Babies when you see the teams who have gathered to be thankful for a child who survived, or in remembrance of a child who was lost,” shared Doreen Kephart, Director of Recruiting. “It brings the meaning of what we’re doing front and center to the community, and to your own heart.”
The campus was able to raise nearly $250 for the March of Dimes through the event. All the proceeds will go towards research that the March of Dimes has been funding for almost 50 years to ensure that all babies can go full-term and have happy and healthy starts to their lives. This event is unique because everyone can relate to the cause. Everyone knows someone who had a baby that was at risk or needed special attention when they were born. Also, this event strives to bring in families with their children, so there are many things to do besides walk; this year’s event featured a hula hoop contest, an inflatable obstacle course, a bounce house, pizza and hot dogs, face-painting, and more!
