Ross Medical Education Center in Morgantown, West Virginia held its annual advisory board meeting this fall. There were representatives in attendance from several local organizations including Advantage Health and Wellness, WVU Medicine, Reynolds Memorial Hospital, Roots & Harmony, Spineworks, Omnicare, Mon Health Systems, Waterfront Pharmacy, WVUM Pharmacy, and Walgreens as well as four Ross graduates. Longevity of the board ranged from those who joined the board when the campus opened in 2012 to those attending for the first time. Participants enjoyed a breakfast from Panera Bread before the meeting began.
After a tour of the facilities, Campus Director Dorie Alger, Assistant Campus Director of Education Jessica Cyphers, and Career Services Representative Tiffany Jones led the group through the highlights and opportunities from the past school year. Attendees were impressed by the scope of services and opportunities afforded to students. Rebecca Keener, Administrative Instructor for the Medical Assistant program and Regional Instructor of the Year, remarked that the feedback gained from the meeting was impressive. “I didn’t realize that we had such an active board and that it was so diverse,” she said. Keener has been an instructor since 2013, but this was her first board meeting.
“We are very fortunate to have Tim Fields from WVUM Pharmacy and Karl Sommers from Waterfront Pharmacy,” said Campus Director Dorie Alger. “They have been active with our board since the beginning and were instrumental earlier this year during our ASHP accreditation process. We were also pleased to welcome back Dr. Tim Dorey and Dr. Kevin Trembush!”
Members reviewed and provided input in the program effectiveness plan, and Assistant Campus Director Jessica Cyphers addressed changes to staffing patterns, curriculum, materials, and the etexts, which were distributed for review and comment. Career Services Representative Tiffany Jones provided a stellar overview of the achievements in career services and discussed the importance branding. She highlighted the achievements of the graduates attending the meeting as well. In closing, Alger issued save the date notices reminding the team that input throughout the year is equally important and encouraged members to reach out and visit during the year.
